You Were There

Family abandoned me
Tossed me out like yesterday’s trash
I did not know it, but you were there
Thought the abuse couldn’t get any worse
wantin' to die
I did not know it, but you were there

Lost in my addiction, a life of violient crime
I did not know it, but you were there
Feelin’ no one loved, cared for me
I did not know it, but you were there

Stickin’ needles in my veins
Thinkin’ it would take away the pain
I did not know it, but you were there
Layin’ in a hospital bed…half dead
I did not know it, but you were there

Years and years of suffering
Hopelessness cloudin’ my mind
I did not know it, but you were there
Evil darkness surroundin’ me
I did not know it, but you were there

Then one day I see you
arms stretched out to me
All I could do is run to you
let you hold me
You said to me

I’ve been here
With you, my son
No matter what happens
With you, my son
Where I’ll always be

Life is joyless without the beautiful gift of outward expression; for it is sharing joy that makes it complete. Even grief and sorrow are better borne when shouldered together. The most splendid idea is fruitless until it is shared. This is what makes communication such a marvelous gift from God. From speech and song, to storytelling and social commentary, to poetry and parable, God has given us a powerful means of expressing ourselves as humans and reflecting Him as God. We invite you to share your own creative expressions and reflections by adding them to this living library.
